And who by fire, who by water,
who in the sunshine, who in the night time,
who by high ordeal, who by common trial,
who in your merry merry month of may,
who by very slow decay,
and who shall I say is calling?
And who in her lonely slip, who by barbiturate,
who in these realms of love, who by something blunt,
and who by avalanche, who by powder,
who for his greed, who for his hunger,
and who shall I say is calling?
And who by brave assent, who by accident,
who in solitude, who in this mirror,
who by his lady's command, who by his own hand,
who in mortal chains, who in power,
and who shall I say is calling?
Leonard Cohen

Bang bang, he shot me down / Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound / Bang bang, my baby shot me down.
it is all in the eye of the beholder....

amazing imagery for the song--
never really heard of cohen--but i am beginning to appreciate him---tom waits abit...
I am blown away by the sax player------
well, he is an amazing artist, songwriter - and also poet/novelist. I have loved his music since I first heard it in the late 80ies - but he had been writing songs for two decades before that... he has been covered by so many other great artists as well, like Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah which is really great - but still I always return to the depth in Cohens voice unlike any others.
at the age of 74 he performed a three hours long brilliant concert in Oslo, he is still very much alive and kicking - and full of humour too
there were 20 000 tickets sold for this event, and everybody would rise as he entered the stage to honour the "grand old man", a great experience - and as he said: "I didn't come all the way to Oslo to fool ya", changing the lyrics on "First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin" a little...
